RUCDR maintains stringent quality control and assurance procedures, while retaining flexibility to meet the changing needs of the biomedical research community.

  • RUCDR maintains secure, state-of-the-art facilities with redundant back-up systems, including natural gas and diesel powered emergency electric generators.

  • Each operation is computerized to minimize sample mislabeling and/or cross-contamination.

  • A small aliquot of blood is stored from which DNA can be extracted at a later date to resolve any sample identity, sample contamination, or pedigree relationship issues. DNA comparisons are done using multiplex PCR of highly polymorphic microsatellite loci.

  • Testing for mycoplasma by PCR and two independent cell-culture procedures.

  • All lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) are free of mycoplasma, bacterial, and fungal contamination.

  • All cryopreserved LCLs are viability tested.

  • Cryopreserved LCLs are stored in multiple locations, including a remote backup site, with around the clock monitoring.

  • Genomic DNA is extracted using state-of-the-art automated extraction systems. DNA quality is verified using restriction enzyme digestions and agarose gel electrophoresis, PCR, and by UV spectroscopy. Excellent results in hundreds of thousands of genotype assays are a testimonial to the quality of RUCDR DNA.

  • New kits, reagents, and protocols are validated before routine use.

  • Continuing education, training, and safety programs are provided to all RUCDR personnel.

  • Real-time proprietary databases and advanced barcode technology are used for tracking samples, with hard-wired and wireless communication to mainframe computers.

  • Timely reports and schedules are provided to clients and funding agencies.

  • Senior RUCDR personnel are on call for rapid response to equipment or facility alarm conditions.
