To meet the strategic objectives of ongoing and future projects of the genetics community, we designed and constructed an expanded and technologically advanced facility. This facility meets or exceeds ISBER (International Society of Biological and Environmental Repositories) Best Practices for Repositories.

  • 18,000 square foot state of the art facility in an academic setting

  • Ten biosafety level II laboratories for cell culture and DNA processing.

  • 24,000 liter capacity bulk liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage tank on site.

  • High efficiency, vacuum jacketed LN2 delivery system.

  •  Fifty high capacity cryotanks – holding approximately 2.5 million ampoules.

  • Separate backup site for all cryopreserved cell lines.

  • Custom fabricated automated ampoule sealers.

  • Over 90 mechanical freezers for storing DNA and biomaterials.

  • Backup HVAC systems for thermal protection of mechanical freezers.

  • Redundant safety features, including oxygen monitors and fire suppression systems.

  • Video-surveillance and other security measures to protect invaluable genetic resources.

  • Critical equipment electronically monitored and on emergency power backup.

  • Emergency power from three independent generators with different fuel sources, providing 500 KW of electricity for a minimum of 72 hours.

  • Quarantine laboratory for processing externally-produced cell lines.

  • Automated DNA extraction systems for highest quality genomic DNA from whole blood or cultured cells.

  • Fully automated robotics facility for production of custom DNA formats, gene expression analyses, SNP and microsatellite genotyping, and genetic testing.

  •  24-7-365 monitoring of facilities and equipment.

  • Open Monday through Saturday, including holidays
